Students in Pre-K through 5th grade visit the library weekly for lessons and checkout. 

Students may check out: 

Pre-K and Kinder: one book at a time

1st and 2nd Grades: two books at a time

3rd, 4th, and 5th grades: three books at a time

All students  are encouraged to check out a variety of both fiction and non-fiction books each week.  I show them how to search for books in our online catalog, which is accessible via Webdesk.  Students also learn how to place holds for books and how to locate books on the shelves, as age appropriate. 

Did you know you can access our Harrington Library resources from home? Our district subscribes to multiple resources and databases such as PebbleGo, National Geographic Kids, Sora (ebooks),  Tumblebooks (ebooks for earlier readers), Britannica online encyclopedias, and more. Your student can access these resources at school and at home via Webdesk.

We love our library volunteers!  Any parent, grandparent, or community member is welcome to be a library volunteer, and no prior library experience is needed. Help re-shelf and check-out books, enhancing the library experience for al students. Look for the volunteer sign-ups on VOLY (coming soon). Your faithful help each week makes all the difference for our students!

Your child will check out and enjoy many great books from our library this year, but they will do and experience so much more as well! Each library class enjoys a targeted library lesson each week. Some of the lesson topics will include learning the basics of digital citizenship and information literacy, using online databases for research, learning about authors and illustrators, identifying features of non-fiction books, honing reading and comprehension skills, and  much more.

The Harrington Library supports many reading incentive programs throughout the school year. I provide students with reading logs for each program, and students are given the opportunity to earn rewards and recognition for their reading efforts.

Some reading incentives include the Read for Fun fall challenge, design your own bookmark, present a book talk, read to a younger buddy, host a library shelf, Our Favorite 5 class book lists, and many more ways to celebrate books and reading!
